Also, the paved Calf Island road is only 30ft wide and the site driveway is at a 90degree angle to the road so backing in may be very challenging depending on your skills and overall size of rig. I cleared a lot of lower hanging branches along the drive but a few may touch your rig. ![]() * Fifth wheels: depending on your height and overall length this site may not be best for you. *Self contained RVs are a must here - there currently are no electric, water or dump/septic facilities on site. * Please try to arrive before dark so you can more easily locate the site, get set up, and familiarize yourself with the property and lay of the land. Spend some time here and you may never want to leave. There is so much to do and see here all without the traffic jams and long lines that you will find on nearby Mount Desert Island. Take the ferry from Winter Harbor to Bar Harbor for the day and avoid the hassle and traffic of driving. Stop at the Winter Harbor Lobster Co-Op to get some fresh lobster or clams. Enjoy world-class stargazing from the property - Schoodic Peninsula is the most remote spot for stargazing in Acadia National Park and one of the best dark skies certified parks in the US. Walk downtown Winter Harbor for dining, shopping, or arts. Sit and take in the views at Grindstone Point. Bike the carriage roads or Schoodic Loop Rd in Acadia NP. Freshwater Kayak or picnic at the beach at Jones Pond within 10min. Spectacular hiking in Acadia National Park or one of several Frenchman Bay Conservancy trails are all within 20min. You could easily spend three weeks here doing something totally new and amazing every day. It is along the Schoodic Scenic Byway that traverses this special peninsula. This site is located in West Gouldsboro which is one of several small scenic villages on the Schoodic Peninsula. At night you can often hear the seals calling in the northern harbor. Sunsets are an “event” in this area!Ībundant wildlife can often be seen including bald eagles, loon, wild turkey, harbor seals, harbor porpoise, many coastal waterfowl, songbirds (including the magical sounding Wood Thrush), deer, mink, etc. Walk a little bit down the hill on the grassy, old well house road and perch your chairs for a sunset you won’t forget.
